Global Brand Forum and Corum have awarded the 2007 Brand Icon of the Year award to former American vice-president Al Gore. It is the first time the award has been made and it will now be awarded each year to mark an individual contribution in the field of brands. Al Gore was an honorary member of this year’s Global Brand Forum which took place on 6 and 7 August in Singapore. According to S. Karthik, Chairman of the Global Brand Forum, "this new award was created to highlight the achievements of someone in the global arena who has made a significant contribution to the branding industry and the world community at large. We choose Al Gore as our inaugural Brand Icon of the Year because of his unique and valuable contributions in the fields of media and the environment." In presenting Al Gore with the award, a Romulus timepiece, Corum President Michael Wunderman said that Al Gore represents the kind of determination and commitment to excellence that is admired by so many companies. "We are very pleased to co-present this honour with Global Brand Forum. I have high admiration and respect for Al Gore for his passion, determination and resolve to unlock his supremacy and conquer the challenges whether as a politician or environmentalist, a "cutting edge" brand leader of great magnitude and responsibility to humankind," said Michael Wunderman.
